Police remind parents of responsibilities when gifting e-scooters and e-bikes this Christmas

Queensland Police Service (QPS) is urging parents to learn and understand their legal responsibilities when considering gifting e-scooters or e-bikes this Christmas, reminding families that purchasing an e-mobility device does not grant children permission to ride unsupervised.

With the continued rise in popularity of PMDs across Queensland, police are reinforcing that safe use begins at home, with parents and carers making informed choices, understanding the rules and legislation, and actively supervising young riders.

This message follows the recent launch of Operation X-Ray Surety, which encourages the community to think ahead, stay informed, and take steps to reduce road trauma and protect our most vulnerable road users.

Perpetrators are of course hardly influenced by a predictive routine slap on the wrist with a warm lettuce. The only remedy (thus far a complete failing by our ideologically soft magistrates) is commensurate consequences. Seems to me there are none so we can sadly expect more of the same. All credit to our overworked, under resourced and under paid police. They're doubtless equally as frustrated as the rest of us.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH REPORT

Following a number of incidents in Noosa waters I have sought advice from Noosa Police about what action can be taken in our Neighbourhood Watch area against gangs of teenagers (school age and above) creating serious harassment and distress to residents.

These gangs are intent on amusing themselves at the expense of residents, and incidents reported to me and experienced by me include throwing objects at cars, at garage doors, onto roofs, at birds and animals and onto driveways as well as random ringing of intercoms and doorbells. Garage doors have been damaged to the extent that they need replacement, in one case at the home of a disabled person.

The gangs are mobile on electric scooters and electric bikes and any attempt at negotiating improved behaviour is met with a stream of abuse and foul language. They are vindictive in targeting people who complain or show distress, with attacks at…

Hi John, I would of thought the presence of security patrols would of been a deterrent, but understand the security is powerless to intervene, but getting more police presence would be of benefit but given other priorities, I'm sure this will be difficult. Perhaps signage stating estate is security patrolled at the entrances? They did this at Pelican Waters estate but with actual patrols ongoing, and with good results, probably pushing them on to more vulnerable estates, like ours.
