A fresh look coming to the Saltwater Avenue gardens

Some good news for the streetscape. Council has begun a full renewal of the centre island garden bed on Saltwater Avenue, across from Neptune Park, and it's going to make a real difference to that entrance.

Here's what's happening and when. The old palms are being removed this week, and over the next fortnight the team will relevel the bed and improve the soil to give the new planting the best possible start. The replanting is set for 17 September, with 14 large trees going in, so the island will green up quickly rather than sitting bare.

Council is taking a staged approach. This first half of the bed is being done now, and the other half will be considered for its own refresh next year, once this side has had time to establish. It's a sensible way to do it, and it means there's more to look forward to in 2027.

A few practical things while the work is on:

• Expect minor traffic delays of up to around 10 minutes, with stop and go and traffic control in place during the tree works.

• Please don't park on the street in the work area during works. Council has advised that vehicles left in the work zone may be towed, so it's worth keeping an eye out for the signage.

• Timeframes can shift a little with weather and site conditions.
